Director of Music
Full-time or part-time to start
Introduction: SongShine is a music-based arts-in-healthcare program for those with Parkinson’s, stroke, other neurological challenges and aging voices. The Director of Music will work as a team with the other Creative Director in delivering SongShine classes and trainings in the Coachella Valley and beyond. This position reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will have a love for working with SongShine participants and their caregivers, many of whom face chronic conditions. The Director of Music will view their role as more than just a job, but “a calling” to make a real difference in the quality of life in those served. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate servant-leader with high energy and excellent communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct two or more weekly SongShine classes (Mondays and Saturdays) in the Coachella Valley as well as two weekly Zoom meetings (Tuesdays) that reach nationwide.
- Individual and one-to-one singing teaching sessions for students, as needed.
- Plan annual benefit luncheon music program with Creative Director.
- Plan and implement annual trainings with Creative Director for new and current facilitators.
- Attend community outreach events and marketing events to promote SongShine in the community.
- Participate in Annual Benefit (February); Annual Parkinson’s Wellness Expo and Spring Musical (April).
- Provide quarterly reports to the Board of Directors.
- Maintain ongoing contact with Affiliate Facilitators to assist them in providing the key elements of the SongShine Program and in sharing resources.
- Other responsibilities as requested by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in Music, Voice, Healthcare or related field.
- Experience teaching singing, conducting, and understanding of basic vocal techniques.
- Degree in Speech Pathology a plus.
- Experience working with vocally challenged individuals or groups in one-to-one or community-based setting.
- Experience working for a non-profit organization in the arts or health services.
Skills and Abilities:
- Commitment to the Mission and those who SongShine serves.
- Ability to learn the SongShine method as detailed in the SongShine method manual
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- High level of discretion and professionalism in dealing with donors and participant confidential information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Instrumental Music training, especially with piano, is a plus.
- Physical ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
- Must be comfortable working with participants mainly 55 and older with fragile health conditions.
